CRADLE OF FILTH - PART WAYS WITH LONG-TERM KEYBOARDIST | 31/05/05
It has been reported today that long term Keyboardist and ex-member of MY DYING BRIDE Martin Powell has left the ranks of CRADLE OF FILTH. The split is said to be amicable and Martin's official statement reads:

"Due to pressing personal reasons I have found myself unable to commit my best efforts and time to CRADLE OF FILTH. Despite five great years, [during] which I have achieved along with my colleagues (past and present) a myriad of goals and dreams, I have decided to bow out from CRADLE. Having played and written music with three greats of English metal (CRADLE OF FILTH, MY DYING BRIDE and ANATHEMA) I am certainly not giving up music in any respect but just need time away from the rigors of being part of a such a time consuming entity as CRADLE OF FILTH is. I shall endeavour to pursue and perhaps release my own music whenever I am blessed with the time and inclination to do so. I should like to thank CRADLE fans and friends the world over for making my time with CRADLE OF FILTH incredibly enjoyable and memorable. I look forward to people hearing from me in the not-too-distant future."

OPETH - SIGN WITH ROADRUNNER RECORDS | 20/05/05
OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt recently spoke to MTV.Com and confirmed that the band have now indeed signed to Roadrunner Records. (Expect 17 tedious digipak re-releases of the next album!) He also took time to give a few details on the new album:

"Musically, 'Damnation' was an experiment for us, it also helped us to develop our sound. So this time around, you can say the overall record is going to be heavy-sounding. There's also a couple of songs that are more in the style of 'Damnation', so to speak. We also have a new member in the band, our keyboard player, Per Wiberg. So we have some vintage keyboards this time around on the heavy material as well. Overall, this one is heavy."

Mikael has also stated that the album will be completed before the end of May, and may even be released as early as August. Tracks to be featured on the album include "Ghost of Tradition", "The Baying of the Hounds" and "Isolation Years".

German power metal group EDGUY have posted the following on their official website:

"There's not only a 5-track EP 'Superheroes' going to come out this year! EDGUY plan to release the first official DVD in September, too, featuring different material than what's going to be found on the EP. Besides the video clip of 'Superheroes', the DVD will feature various live tracks in 5.1 sound filmed at their show in Sao Paulo during their world tour 2004 when the band flew their whole big stage over to Brazil. Furthermore there will be a lot of never-before-seen 'behind-the-scenes' footage — they have a camera team filming their recording sessions of the forthcoming EP and album right now. This DVD — that will have plenty of other little features as well — is going to be called 'Superheroes - the DVD' and should be out early September."

   DARK FUNERAL - STUDIO IMMINENT | 20/05/05
DARK FUNERAL guitarist Lord Ahriman has issued the following album update:

"Monday is the day we've all been waiting for! Hell yeah, Monday we will finally enter Dug-Out Studios with producer Daniel Bergstrand to begin the work and recording of our new, yet untitled Satanic symphony. We are scheduled to be located at the dungeons of Dug-Out Studios between May 23 to July 1st.

"Since we will be continuing to write material and work on arrangements in the studio, I can unfortunately not say much about the actual new songs. And even tough WE have an exclusive insight on the new material, I can assure you that we, the band, are as curious as all of you to find out and hear what the final result will sound alike.

"To at least give you some kind of information on the new stuff, I can tell you as much as with THIS album we have been, and still are, specifically working to make improvements on the drum-side (to get a more complex and rhythmic drumming then before) as well as the guitar side of the music, of course. Many of the melodies I've written so far for this album are the fastest I've ever written, which in a way give them a more atmospheric and 'classical' touch than ever before, while others are perhaps abit slower but with a darker and more depressive feeling."

   WOLVERINE - TO ENTER STUDIO | 19/05/05
Swedish Prog Metal band WOLVERINE have posted the following message on their official website:

"The work on the new album is going really well. We now have six songs ready but are aiming for another two or three. Some of you may think that we're out a bit late since we're entering the studio in just seven weeks. Don't sweat it. I don't think we've ever had an album entirely finished when we've entered the studio. When we did "Cold Light of Monday" we even wrote an entire song after the recordings had begun."

"We have high hopes about this album and hopefully we'll be able to play it live in order to promote it. We'll see what happens. If possible we will put up some sort of blog or something while in the studio to keep you all updated on what's happening."

SUIDAKRA - EXPLAIN SPLIT WITH CENTURY MEDIA | 19/05/05
In a recent interview with Metal Temple, german metal act SUIDAKRA explained their split with Century Media Records, amongst other topics.

Arcadius comments: "Yes, of course. As I have mentioned before there were several problems with the promotion the label did for us. Our first album for them back in 2001, 'Emprise to Avalon', was actually not promoted at all. Still, the press sent a very positive feedback. At that time period we thought that this had something to do with the fact that this was actually our first album with them. So when the release of 'Signs of the Fallen' took place we expected their support 100 percent. The press was satisfied with this album but still there was almost no promotion at all.

"To make a long story short, when we started recording the new album, we met with the company and they told us that they don't really like our new sound. They wanted us to play exactly like our previous albums. Why do that? To get no promotion at all, again? There was no reason to continue with the label."

AMORAL - ROAD REPORT AND NEW ALBUM | 16/05/05
Finnish death-metallers AMORAL have recently reported in from the road, after recently completing their european tour with FINNTROLL and NAGLFAR:

"Well, we made it back home with no major losses or injuries (not counting cut fingers, stitched legs, lost phones and clothes or permanently damaged livers...) The atmosphere on the bus couldn't have possibly been any better than it was, thanks to FINNTROLL, NAGLFAR and the crew, who were all very cool to us. Also a big thank you to everyone who showed up to see us, or found themselves digging our show. The crowd responses were very good almost everywhere, so the gigs were a blast. We have about 10 hours worth of video material on and off stage, let's see if we'll be able to make something out of that pile of tapes someday...

"About the cancelled gig at Milton Keynes: We are very sorry about that, but there was nothing we could do about it. The promoter wasn't interested in fulfilling his side of the agreement, so our tour manager had no choice but to pull the gig...

"We'll spend July in the studio recording our second album, and at the moment the release date is set to October 4th. After the release we'll do a small tour here in Finland. Hopefully we'll be able to tour abroad too, in the beginning of next year..."

ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"I am writing this studio update in Derbyshire, U.K …breathing in the fresh country air and looking at cows and sheep in the fields! Yes, we have moved to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing of the 'Doomsday Machine' album.

"It's an amazing, almost euphoric feeling to have finally completed the recording phase of the new ARCH ENEMY album… We were starting to get serious cabin fever at Slaughterhouse studio (Halmstad, Sweden)…! We have all put a lot of hard work into creating something really special… A big thank you goes out to Rickard Bengtsson, who has produced this record and gotten some great results out of all of us!

"Andy Sneap has given the material his (metal) stamp of approval and it’s killer to see (and hear) him work on the songs — it sounds fucking great!!!! The guitar sound is HUGE and it's really got a great 'cut' to it! The drum sound is also a big step up for us — super heavy!

"I am very confident that ARCH ENEMY fans will enjoy this album when it is released this summer! The 'Doomsday Machine' is coming!!!!!"

The following has been posted on opeth's official website today:

"Per Wiberg has now officially joined Opeth as a permanent member of the band. As most of you know he's been touring with Opeth since their "Damnation" record. Spiritual beggars fans should not despair as he will continue playing and recording with them.

The band is currently hard at work in Fascination street studios. 9 titles have been recorded and at this moment Hammond organs and Mellotrons are being put down to tape. The recording is being supervised and engineered by Jens Bogren and produced by the band. Some song titles have been confirmed and will be posted here soon.

Several North American journalists will visit the studio in mid May for interviews and exclusive listening sessions. We will soon confirm a handful of Scandinavian and European dates. The band will do a smaller trek round the key cities in Europe in September. This will be the first tour in support of the new album which is supposed to be released in late August/early September. More tour dates to come...."

Excellent news! More as we get it...
