        Live Review
For any Death Metal band to play in Glasgow on the same night as In Flames were supporting Motorhead at the Carling Academy across the river was never going to be a recipe for a healthy turnout, and so that proved to be the case when Vomitory's UK and Ireland tour hit town. The “crowd” that turned up numbered about a few dozen at most, which must have really sucked for the band who had come all of the way from Sweden but on a totally selfish note the lack of people seemed to give the whole gig a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere that I doubt that I would have got to the same level down the front at In Flames/Motorhead and all of the people that did turn up quite clearly did had a great time. I have no doubt at all that I chose the best band to go and see that night.

The venue was really small - a pub basement. I arrived in time to hear local band Argonauth play their last song and they sounded really good and I wished that I had been a bit earlier to catch all of their set. The door was next to the stage so as soon as I got in I was right at the front.

Next up were Screamin' Demon - a band from the East of England who do a nice line in songs about murderers, and who play top quality Blackened Death Metal with excellent guitar playing. Their frontman had great stage banter with a deadpan sense of humour while he helpfully told us about the life and crimes of who the next song was about, and made it all hilariously funny. Excellent live band who you all owe it to yourself to see. I was so impressed that I bought their CD immediately after their set.

Desecration played well and I did enjoy their set, but I found that them appearing between Screamin' Daemon and Vomitory robbed them of any Wow! Factor that they may have otherwise had. This is more a testament to just how good the other 2 bands were than any criticism of them. They did play a very solid set and I would like to see them again, just not as much as I would like to see Screamin' Daemon or Vomitory again.

Vomitory were amazing! They were so brutal that anyone trying to headband along to them would have broken their neck as great riff followed great riff. You would never have guessed that Project Hate MCMXCIX/God Among Insects guitarist Lord K was only called upon to stand in at the last minute after Ulf Dalegren left the band just before the tour started as the whole band was so tight and totally note perfect that you would have thought that the 4 of them had been playing together for years.

I twisted my ankle slightly when a mosh pit erupted from out of nowhere during "Primal Massacre" and took me a little bit by surprise and so had to retreat to further back in the crowd for the last half of their set., but this was not enough to stop me from enjoying it though. All too soon they announced that it was their last song.

All in all, it was a thoroughly fantastic evening of great Death Metal.
