DEAD TO THIS WORLD is the latest project from ex-Immortal member and Necrophagia bassplayer "Iscariah". This much anticipated self-produced demo was recently recorded here in the UK, and bizarrely has been freely distributed on "My Space" for all to hear.
Obviously this is a 3 Track demo, and also an internet download, so therefore quality of production isn't exactly the highest - yet it still manages to have more oomph than any fully released Darkthrone LP! Indeed, fans of both Immortal and Darkthrone will find something of interest here.
A promising start, the track "Goatpower" is a fast and venomous number - reminscent of the recent vibe of Darkthrone's "Sardonic Wrath" - but with an added thick, bassy sounding guitar and equally meaty, pounding, epic drum beat that could be lifted straight from Immortal's "At the Heart of Winter" and doesn't let up for a single second.
Title track "Dead to This World" again continues the formula, taking on a more "punk" sound at times - even including distinct elements of hard-hitting traditional Thrash metal, all blended well with the harsh black metal vocals.
Final track "Pacifist Terrorist" starts off sounding the most "Immortal" of the tracks so far, with those trademark 100mph drums, before changing mid-way through to a dirty, sludge-mosh tempo riff which certainly gets the head banging. The whole thing is accompanied by maniacal black metal howls and death metal grunts to round things off nicely.
While there isn't a lot to gauge from a 3 track demo, initial findings are definitely promising. While Immortal fans may salivate at the idea of a new Iscariah project, there may also be something of interest here for any fan of Black Metal, Thrash Metal or even perhaps Punk.
This certainly makes me look forward to the fully produced album promised for the end of the year!
